I have been a part of this community for nearly 20 years, working tirelessly to make it a better place.

Since coming to the Sheriff’s Office, I have created programs to increase community involvement and office transparency. My team and I implemented a Body-Worn Camera program placing cameras on every Deputy and Correctional Officer.  I also brought the first community policing model to the Sheriff’s Office.

I have transformed the way we respond to mental illness and have re-engaged our office with our education partners. Also, for the first time our Deputy Sheriffs are part of the ¡ADELANTE! Program to mentor local youth in collaboration with LULAC.

San Benito County is a unique place. We are fortunate our community is a safe place to work and live.

My 15 years of experience at the Watsonville Police Department prepared  me to shape the next generation of Deputy Sheriffs here in San Benito County.

While at Watsonville PD, I was a police officer, corporal, detective, patrol sergeant and detective sergeant.

Prior to Watsonville PD, I was the stadium operations manager for the Oakland Athletics. While there, I had a staff of over 550 people. I managed a large budget and was responsible for risk management on a game by game basis.

I am also a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute (Class 321).

Since coming to San Benito in June of 2014, I have been the commander of our operations and administrative divisions.  I have transformed our office to have a team that is more reflective of our community demographics. I have shown, by example, the value in re-connecting with our community based organizations and partners in service.

Most importantly, I am the currently seated Sheriff-Coroner. I have the support of my staff, allied agencies, and our community. My children  have attended local schools since 2003.  My heart is with this community, and all who live in it. I do not serve special interests and do not let politics influence my decisions. With me you will always have equal protection under the law.

I recently created and launched a community policing model called the Responsibility Area (RA) Program. I have sub-divided the county into 19 areas and assigned a deputy to each one.  No matter where you live, you will have direct access to a Deputy Sheriff who will have primary responsibility for ongoing issues in your area.

My staff completed Implicit Bias Training presented to us by the Los Angeles Police Department in 2020.

I launched a social media campaign on Facebook and Instagram in 2018. Prior to this, our office did not have direct communication with our community.

Since coming here in 2014, I have changed the way we respond to people in crisis.  I implemented de-escalation protocols into our standard operating procedures, especially when encountering people who are suicidal or suffering a mental health crisis, long before it was mandated.

I have been engaged and present at community events regarding social justice and civil rights.  As your Sheriff, I am committed to protecting and serving all in our community, equally.

I attend the board meetings regularly to make myself available to the Board of Supervisors and the public.

I have made it one of my primary goals to recruit, hire and train local talent.  I only hire and retain people with high moral character and a heart to do the job for the right reasons.  Again, I have made great strides toward a team who better reflect the demographics of our community.

I also worked to bring a satellite office back to San Juan Bautista and have dedicated a Deputy Sheriff to San Juan Bautista exclusively.

Last, we have implemented "Agua Con La Chota", a migrant farmworker outreach program and also "Adelante" which is a youth mentorship program in collaboration with LULAC.

There are no easy answers, but there are simple answers.

We must have the courage to do what we know is morally right

- Ronald Reagan

Unmotivated by politics, I will provide public safety, with an emphasis on service, to this community in an equitable fashion. I will connect my office with our community and provide equal protection under the law.
